And trust me when I say that GOOD coffee tastes like it smells, and bad coffee generally tastes bitter... (And Starbucks either tastes like it's burned or it tastes like the devil. But I digress).

Coffee has, however, become slightly more of an enemy than a friend. I found, much later in college, after surviving only on coffee and Cheesy Mac, that coffee gives me anxiety attacks. The caffeine. It sucks, because I love coffee. very, VERY, much. But now I can feel that stupid caffeine, that makes everyone else so productive and happy, making me into a shaky, anxious, panicky person. Sometimes, just one lovely latte will do it.

So beware...as much as I love coffee...if you drink too much of it for too long, it can do bad things to do. And then you have to break up with coffee...which is very very sad. You have to cheat on coffee with tea, which is just not as much fun.

Yay.

PS: Coffee, I still love you, I swear...don't leave me. Tea means nothing to me. However, for some of us, is just a luxury we enjoy. For the last nine months I have completely abstained from my beloved java...actually went cold-turkey when I found out my husband and I were expecting (that made the first few weeks of pregnancy *extra* enjoyable for my poor husband, lol). Now I find I miss the taste (it's an acquired taste, btw). However, more than that, I really just miss the act of drinking coffee. For me, drinking coffee was something I did while mentally preparing for my day and something I did while unwinding my nerves near mid-afternoon. It was part of my relaxation routine -- the "me" time that helped me get through my day. That might be why so many Moms enjoy it...it's a part of their "me" time...something they do for themselves.

So, if you really hate coffee, I wouldn't feel compelled to learn to love it. I just think for some of us, it's just a matter of taste and sanity.

Great, now I really want a big cup of coffee. :)KaseyInChargenoreply@blogger.com
