Getting Jipped from My Snow Day!

At first I missed GR. All my friends were there, my family, my favorite Target. I wrote it letters, I begged all my friends to move with me, and I cried for hours on end! It was a very rough time or me. (Ok well I didn't really cry, except when I found out Target was half way across town. That was a rough moment.)

Things got a little better. I made some friends in Lansing. I got to go to some MSU games. (Go Sparty!) I got used to the smell. (If you weren't aware, Lansing has a NASTY smell. It's a cross between a landfill and burnt food. Not pleasant. But you get used to it. Kinda like Bay City and the sugar beats!) My friends from GR even come to visit me every so often. (I love you guys!!!)

I came to terms with my move. All was going well.

And then it snowed.

At first I was all, "Ha ha GR, you guys suck. I don't have snow and you doooooo!"

Sure it was immature and slightly mean, but what's a girl to do?

I felt good about my smug attitude. I laughed at their misery and reveled in the fact I had moved so far away from the crappy weather. (I don't understand why my friends don't visit me more often. I am Such A Great Friend!)

And then it happened.

They popped up all over Facebook ... Status Updates like ...

Snow Day :o/ ...

Drive safe out there.......I know I won't be leaving my house today.......so be safe out there.....

To go back to bed, or help husband shovel? hrmmmm tough call.

Hopes that the e-mail and text notification system she set up at school worked for all those who signed up. I received my text within 5 minutes of it being posted on Facebook

That's right. GR equals snow day today and Lansing equals getting out of bed and getting the kids ready and trudging out in the slush and and and...

Can I move back to GR now?

GR would be happy to have you back. BTW Snow Days also mean you have to entertain me. You knew that right?? You signed the contract when we had the girl's weekend. You remember that too, right?? :)

Then how am I supposed to edit? And cook my Chicken Soup? And clean? And entertain my four year old? And Shower?

I don't recall signing any contracts!

This is a fun post, and a fun way to say something that matters.

We have to drink the cup of joy given to us. That's the way it works.

Otherwise, we miss out. And we are usually the ones who miss out the most.

I didn't realize the weather was so different from one city to another. Aren't GR and Lansing right next to each other? Crazy. We've still got a few inches here, and record low temps. I think I'd be happy to trade :)

Thanks Cassandra :)

Natalie...they are about an hour and a half away from each other. I couldn't believe the weather difference either. Isn't it crazy!

The temps are supposed to drop and the snow should be on its way though.

Fingers crossed for snow day tomorrow??!?!

Tough luck. I think 80% of midwest schools had snow days today.

Have you seen Madison...I can actually say this is our first legit snow day!

I have to agree with Katie! All the schools are closed here! Of course it's really a moot point in our house. We don't take snow days. And then we get to finish at the end of May and enjoy the whole summer. But my kids did get extra time to play in the snow today--it was great motivation for them to finish their school work quickly so they could head outside to enjoy it!

I so feel you. In Utah, we don't know what "snow day" means, because every day in December, January, February, and sometimes March is a snow day. Le sigh.

It was in the 50's today... not even close to snow! I WOULD like some around Christmas though... but that will be nothing short of a miracle:-)

Two years ago we had 11 snow days, last year, one losy one, and this year we're still waiting for our first. I so love snow days! Feel for you Marybeth!

Aww... If it makes you feel better it NEVER snows in L.A. But then again I homeschool so I don't have to get out of my PJ's either ;) Who knows what tomorrow will bring... perhaps a blizzard will do nicely? (For you not for me). Actually a financial blizzard would do nicely for me, thank you very much.

What a fabulous site! I am so bummed I didn't find it sooner. I don't know how I missed it with all the familiar faces I see! :)

I live in Montana, and the snow is headed my way. We're supposed to get dumped on next week (only we don't get many snow days here!)

T. Anne please share your financial blizzard with me!!!

Welcome Shannon! Hope to see you around much!

I want a snow day. Can you send some of that white stuff to me in FL?

A snow day also brings children misbehaving because they are stuck indoors when it's too cold or messy to go outside to play. :)

Unknown said...

But that's the problem adrienzgirl...we don't have enough snow either!

Oh Mindy...your kids are angels...I'm sure they aren't misbehaving!

I am so glad to read that you think Lansing stinks. I work in Lansing 2 nights a week, and every time I drive through the 496-127 interchange, I check to see if I shit myself when I wasn't paying attention!
