I Had a Dream!

Not the MLK kinda dream...but it was foretelling (I hope) just like his.

I had a dream that the woman who has my manuscript wanted to represent me. Although in the process she also wanted me to cut out my first 2 chapters and re-write half the book. But Representation nonetheless!

Does that worry you? Do you fear your book being completely altered once you have scored that long awaited agent? Do you fear it will become unrecognizable? Will it be worth it?

What is your stance on this? Or am I just completely over exaggerating the process?

As I am pressed for time today due to a class field trip (in the rain...oh joy!) I am postponing the contest results by one day, as am I postponing the next 3 Gnome Award Winners. Tune in tomorrow for your winner and their prize!!!

Wow...cool dream! It is a little frightening to think about having to revise your whole book, but I think, in the end, the author has the last say. If not, keep the drafts that you like. Than way, you aren't saying goodbye to anything.

For me, changing my work doesn't bother me in the sense that it will alter my story. For me, it's just really hard to know what to change. Who do you listen to? Everybody has an opinion, you know? That's why I think prayer is so important!

May your dream of representation come true!

*crosses fingers that neither of us will have extensive revisions*

Yes...there have been MANY prayers!!! But I completely agree. I have a hard time asking people for their opinions because they all differ so much! And of course everyone who knows me seems to think it's perfect. Sigh...

I say let em mold the book, AND... always remember that if two people see a problem... even if their crits vary completely and differently... then you should most definitely do change er up :)

This doesn't necessarily go with your posting today. Sort of, a little...but just in general (It also probably makes no sense). I opened up my bottle of Mango Acai White tea (YUM) and on the cap there was a message. A good one for all of us to remember, but I thought I'd pass it on to you in the hopes that it might give some perspective, at least for a little bit. (As a perpetual worrier/ cup-half-empty kind of a person myself, I have a hard time remembering these things...)

"Optimism can make you look stupid, but cynicism always makes you look cynical."----Calum Fisher

I look stupid a lot of the time (GIANT dork, on top of being a worrier), so I figure it might be better to try going with the optimisn thing :)

Good luck on everything. Change is good (listen to me, trying to tell someone change is good. HA HA). And don't worry about it until it happens. Then, you can deal with it :) Love ya!!

If an editor wants me to revise the whole thing after the contract, I'll probably be cool with it. If the revisions are from an agent or before a contract, I'd have to agree with them. :-)
Cool dream though!

Yeah in all reality, I'd probably let them turn my book into something different too. But I wouldn't enjoy it!!!

And Danyelle Congrats on placing in the Purple Prose Contest!!!

I totally understand your fear. I'm dealing with that right now as I edit. I keep wondering if they'll like it as is, or if I'll have to do a lot more work. Either way, I think the key is for us to remain flexible. As newbies, we don't have the leverage to be demanding. At this stage, I think we'll appear more professional if we trust their experience!

I've had prospective agents hack my book to pieces then say NO. lol. I always make a new copy for them, never really touching the original just in case.

Hey it worked for Susan Boyle! (lol)
totally late on the gnome contest but I feel like it should have a Mary Poppins tie-in. therefore I vote for the gname of the gnome to be CHIM CHIM, which would be short for Chim Chim-i-gnome, of course!
